This Privacy Policy describes how Stanford Tse (“I,” “me,” or “my”) collects, uses, and shares information when you visit this personal website (the “Site”).

By using the Site, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

1. Who I Am

This Site is a personal portfolio website operated by Stanford Tse. It showcases professional background, education, experience, and projects.

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or how your information is handled, you can contact me via:

2. Scope

This policy applies to information processed through the public-facing Site. It does not cover:

  • Third-party websites linked from the Site (for example, GitHub or LinkedIn), which have their own privacy policies
  • The Site’s private content-management / admin area, which is restricted to authorized administrators

3. Information I Collect

3.1 Information you provide voluntarily

The public Site does not currently include a contact form, newsletter signup, account registration, or other features that ask visitors to submit personal information.

If you choose to contact me through an external channel (for example, LinkedIn or email), I will receive whatever information you choose to share in that message.

3.2 Information collected automatically

When you visit the Site, standard technical information may be processed automatically by the hosting environment and related infrastructure, such as:

  • IP address
  • Browser type and version
  • Device and operating system information
  • Referring URL
  • Pages visited, date and time of access
  • General diagnostic or security logs

This information is typically used for operating, securing, and troubleshooting the Site. I do not use it to build marketing profiles of individual visitors.

3.3 Information stored on your device

The Site may use browser storage (such as localStorage or sessionStorage) for basic site functionality—for example, remembering that an introductory greeting animation has already been shown so it is not repeated on every visit.

This data stays on your device. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings.

3.4 Cookies

  • Public visitors: The Site is not designed to set marketing or advertising cookies for public browsing.
  • Administrators: Authorized administrators who sign in to the private admin area may receive authentication cookies required to maintain a secure session.

Your browser may also create its own technical storage in the normal course of browsing.

4. How I Use Information

I use information described above to:

  • Operate, maintain, and improve the Site
  • Ensure security, prevent abuse, and diagnose technical issues
  • Remember limited functional preferences on your device (such as greeting display)
  • Respond to messages you send me through external channels
  • Comply with legal obligations where applicable

I do not sell your personal information.

5. Legal Bases (Where Applicable)

If you are located in a region that requires a legal basis for processing personal data (such as the EEA/UK under GDPR), processing is generally based on:

  • Legitimate interests — operating a personal portfolio site securely and reliably
  • Consent — where required for optional storage/preferences, to the extent applicable
  • Legal obligation — where processing is required by law
  • Contract / pre-contract steps — if you contact me about professional opportunities and processing is needed to respond

6. How I Share Information

I may share information only in limited circumstances:

  • Service providers — hosting, infrastructure, content delivery, or similar providers that help run the Site, under appropriate confidentiality and security expectations
  • Legal requirements — if required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, or security
  • Business transitions — if this Site or related assets are transferred (unlikely for a personal site), information may transfer as part of that change

Public portfolio content you see on the Site (project descriptions, about text, and similar) is intentionally published by me and is not “visitor personal data.”

7. Third-Party Links and Services

The Site may link to third-party platforms such as GitHub and LinkedIn. If you follow those links, their privacy practices apply, not this policy.

If future features rely on third-party services (for example, analytics, forms, or chat tooling), this Privacy Policy will be updated to describe them.

8. Admin Area and Authentication

The Site includes a private administration area used only by authorized users to manage content. Administrator authentication may involve third-party identity providers (such as Google sign-in via Firebase) and session cookies.

Visitor browsing of the public Site does not require an account.

9. Data Retention

  • Server and security logs are retained only as long as reasonably needed for operation, security, and troubleshooting
  • Device-stored functional data (for example, greeting preference) remains until you clear browser storage or it expires according to the Site’s logic
  • Messages you send me through external channels are retained as long as needed to respond and for ordinary professional record-keeping.

10. Security

I take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the Site and related systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and I cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. International Transfers

The Site may be hosted or supported using infrastructure located in different countries. If your information is processed in another country, it may be subject to the laws of that country. Where required, appropriate safeguards will be used for such transfers.

12. Children’s Privacy

The Site is not directed to children under 16 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and I do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact me so I can delete it where appropriate.

13. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal information, which can include:

  • Accessing the information I hold about you
  • Requesting correction or deletion
  • Objecting to or restricting certain processing
  • Requesting data portability
  • Withdrawing consent where processing is based on consent

To exercise these rights, contact me using the channels listed in Section 1. I may need to verify your request before responding.

If you are in the EEA/UK, you may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

14. California / US State Privacy Notices (If Applicable)

If you are a resident of California or another US state with a comprehensive privacy law, you may have rights to know, delete, or correct personal information, and to opt out of certain sales/sharing of personal information.

I do not sell personal information. Because this is a personal portfolio site with limited data collection, many consumer privacy rights requests may not apply to identifiable visitor data beyond ordinary server logs and messages you send me. You may still contact me to make a request.

15. Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” setting. The Site does not currently respond to DNT signals in a differentiated way beyond the limited collection practices described above.

16. Changes to This Policy

I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when updates are made. Continued use of the Site after an update means you accept the revised policy, to the extent permitted by law.

17. Contact

For privacy-related questions or requests:

If you prefer email contact, please reach out through LinkedIn and I can share a suitable address.
